How to play chess:
The player with the white pieces always moves first.
How to Move the Rook: Rooks can move in any straight line and can not move diagonally. Rooks can not jump across other chess pieces.
How to Move the Bishop: Bishops move across the diagonals of the board. Bishops on a dark square can only move to other dark squares in a diagonal. Bishops on a light square can only move onto other light squares.
How to Move the Queen: The queen combines the power of the rook and the bishop. Queens can move diagonally and along straight lines and capture by running into any piece.
How to Move the King: The king can only move one square in any direction. However, it’s essential to learn what to do when your king is placed into ‘check’ by watching the full video from FunMasterMike!
How to Move the Pawn: The pawn usually only travels one square forward at a time. Only when a pawn is on the starting row can it move one or two steps forward. Pawns are the only chess pieces that capture in a different direction to how they usually move. Although pawns typically move in straight lines, they can only capture other pieces diagonally.
How to Move the Knight: The knight moves in an ‘L’ shape. The knight is unique because it can jump over other pieces when capturing material!
Make sure to watch the video to learn more about castling effectively, en passant captures, setting up the chessboard, tips on chess openings, special pawn moves, pawn promotions, stalemates, and how to win the game!
